Milner won the House Cross-Country most convincingly. They took the first three places in Upper School, first and third in Middle School and first in Lower School.

ATHLETICS

The season did not begin until after half-term owing to the appalling weather conditions. When it did begin, we did not enjoy the greatest of successes. Against Mount St Mary's and Woodhouse Grove the seniors were particularly poor in the throwing events and little better on the track. We came off badly in third place. The intermediate section provided a closer competition; we were strong in the field events thanks to Onyekwelu, while Cope and Mbakwe gave valuable support in the sprints. In the junior events we came closer to Woodhouse Grove than in any other section with Koloko performing well in the sprints and jumps.

After this fixture it was clear that harder training was necessary. This paid off with a win against Ratcliffe. The match was very close throughout with Ratcliffe taking the senior section in the relay and Cotton winning the junior in the same way.

The final fixture was against Newcastle at Under 17 and Under 15 level. Despite absences because of examinations, Cotton's athletes performed well and in a close finish took the match in both age-groups.

Full Colours were awarded to D Ottewell.

CATHOLIC PREPARATORY SCHOOLS ATHLETICS COMPETITION AT COTTON 23rd June, 1985

This was the third Annual Competition at Cotton and again more schools took part than last year.

They were: BOYS: The Oratory Preparatory School, Reading: All Hallows, Cranmore, Somerset; Grace Dieu Manor, Coalville, Leics; Llanarth Court, Raglan, Gwent; Winterfold House, Chaddesley Corbett, Worcs; St John's, Alton, Staffs; St Bede's, Manchester; Loyola, Essex; St Edmund's, Ware, Herts; St Joseph's, Trent Vale, Stoke on Trent; Salesian College, Farnborough, Hants; Moor Park, Ludlow; Bishop Challoner, Kent; and St Richard's, Bredenbury.

GIRLS: Moor Park, Ludlow, Upton Hall Convent, The Wirral; Holy Trinity, Kidderminster; All Hallows, Cranmore, Somerset.

Again it was a very pleasant occasion. An Exeat weekend was proclaimed to make room for the Staff and pupils who stayed at Cotton overnight. The winners were Holy Trinity, Kidderminster, for the girls and St Edmund's, Ware, for the boys. The prizes were presented by our Sports Coach, Mr John Goodwin, who had only recently returned from the England Rugby Union tour of New Zealand.

We thank all the schools that took part, some travelling very long distances, and welcome them back next year.
