CLERICAL NEWS

Mgr Percival Rees has retired after 45 years at the Sacred Heart, Moreton. Bishops Gray and Brewer and 80 priests attended the Mass to mark Percy's retirement. He has been Vicar-General to three bishops and was created a Protonotary Apostolic (hence the mitre) by Pope Paul VI in 1978. He was later presented with a cheque for £4500. Canon John Welch became a Rt Rev Mgr last February. Fr Edward Stewart, on his translation from St Chad's to Warwick, became an Honorary Canon. Canon Cyril Schwarz is now Administrator at Wrexham Cathedral. Fr Kieran Conry, Secretary to the retiring Apostolic Pro-Nuncio, was made a Monsignor in January. Congratulations to all.
