We occasionally meet Monsignor Philip Webb of the Menevia Diocese. In any case we are bound to hear from him at Christmas time since he is the Secretary of the Dl. Richard Gwyn Society which was founded to provide schools for Catholic children in Wales.

Mrs A Dee of Boar's Hill Oxford, the daughter of Dr von Zeissl who taught here for several years, is delighted that Mgr Doran is Chairman of tire Marriage Advisory Council, of which she is a member.
Kazimier Maj has announced his engagement to Miss Patricia Brindley. Kazimier, who came from Rugeley,
is working for Celeon Ltd, makers of lightweight concrete blocks.
Fathers Pat O'Brien and Anthony Owen concelebrated Mass on the occasion of the Silver Jubilee of the Wedding of Jack and Nora Cavanagh of Stockport on 28 December. We look forward to the Golden Jubilee Celebrations.
Kevin Ilsley is enjoying life as a medical student at St Thomas's Hospital. It comes as no surprise to learn that he has joined the London University Drama Society, but we were impressed, 'if that is the right word, to hear that he has also been playing rugger.
Paddy McMahon has been back to see us a few times since he left. His studies at Warwick University went well once he really let his hair down.
Christopher Williams was awarded a 2.1. in German and a 2.2. in French at Trinity, Dublin, and is now working at Slough with Imperial Chemical Industries. His brother Nicholas has turned to Sociology and Economies and hopes to make it to University this year.
We had a letter full of news from Patrick Jordan who gained an external BA from London University, while at St Mary's, Strawberry Hill, in 1967. He is now teaching at St Thomas Aquinas Grammar School in Birmingham, where he joined John Singleton who was recently married. To the latter and his wife we would send our very best wishes for their happiness. Patrick would like an invitation to play in the annual Old Boys' Hockey match against the School next year when he would be able to renew his acquaintance with John Appleton who played
in the same team with him at St Mary's. After watching Chelsea play In the company of Maurice Regan and Chris Wilmot lie has lost track of Chris. The last we heard of Chris was that he was taking a degree at Southampton University. In his letter Patrick also mentioned Barry Hickey, Frank Shipman and Declan Murphy O'Connor as fellow students at St Mary's. Frank is a frequent visitor here with his wife Angola and daughter, Teresa Mary.
Rev David McGough received the diaconate last October from His Eminence Cardinal Heard, David has since been to see us and played for Oscott in the cricket match here. Fortunately he was not in the same form he displayed in Rome, when he made a big innings against the Embassies, and we managed to get him out reasonably cheaply.

It was a most enjoyable affair but several Old Boys had to play out of position, so if younger Old Boys would like to play please get in touch with Fr S Farrell. The 1969 match will take place on Sunday 26 October. Lunch is laid on.
Our congratulations are due to Mgr Wilfrid Doran on his recent appointment as a Prelate of Honour by His Ho11ness Pope Paul in recognition for all his work at Cotton. We are also very pleased that a similar honour has been given to Fr Frank Thomas, Rector of Oscott College,
and we wish him every success in his most important post. Fr John Welch, of St Joseph's Goldenhill, has been made a Canon of the Birmingham Archdiocese and Dean of the Stoke-on-Trent area. We should like to congratulate him very sincerely and also two other Old Cottonians: Fr Syl Copsey of Holy Trinity, Sutton Coldfield, and Fr P Leo McCartie, Administrator of St Chad's Cathedral, who have been made Honorary Canons of the Birmingham Archdiocese by His Grace Archbishop Dwyer. We are all delighted that sons of Cotton continue to do such good work in the Diocese. The present writer would like to thank all those who wrote to him on his own appointment as Chaplain of Honour to His Holiness.
Fr Paul Devaney came to supper one night in October. He is enjoying life on the parish at Trowbridge and calls occasionally on S M Oliver who is nearby. Sam has a very good position with Unigate.
