THE COTTONIAN
Sacrament and our Lady, the kindly human qualities had made him so popular as a student and with his fellow-priests, and those priestly virtues that had endeared him to his first parishioners at Burton. These same qualities, never dimmed by thirty years of ill-health, won his parishioners' affection and admiration. They remember, for example, the great gusto with which he kept his promise that 'My biretta will hit the roof when the church is full for the children's service' ; the fatherly pride with which he welcomed everybody to his annual gardenparty which grew to such large proportions that it was a regular August Bank Holiday attraction for the whole district ; and his proud boast, especially relevant now that he needs their prayers, that his people never refused him anything for which lie asked them.
DAVID ORME
(1946-53)
Everybody who knew David Orme was shocked beyond measure to hear of his tragic death in the Innsbruck air disaster. Since leaving school he had been in the family business at Uttoxeter. He had played regularly for the Old Boys at Whitsuntide and had also played against the School for the Staffordshire Gentlemen. He had been on several tours with the Eclectics, and so was well known to, and very popular with, many others in addition to his contemporaries, for his cheerful, unaffected and genuine friendship.
Our most sincere sympathy goes out to his parents and sister, and to the relatives of James and Robin Bamford, also of Uttoxeter, with whom David was flying for a winter sports holiday, and whom many of us also
knew well, though they were not Old Boys of the School. It was a loss of three fine young Christian men, who are, and will be, very much missed.
As we were going to press, we heard with sorrow of the death of Mgr Bernard Bell (1907-13), of Stockport, Vicar-General and Provost of the Diocese of Shrewsbury.

May they rest in. Peace.
