SCHOOL v. OSCOTT COLLEGE.

Played at Oscott, March 25th.
Drawn 3-3.

The forecast for this match by the local pundits (including the present writer) was a severe defeat for the School XV which was badly out of practice and had to face an exhausting journey before facing a faster and heavier side. Fortunately the forecast proved wrong and the School side would appear to have risen to the occasion very well. At the outset, the School defence was very severely tested by strong attacks, but the defenders stood up to it gallantly. Having settled down to the game, the School forwards began to hold their own and before the interval were actually pushing back their heavier opponents. However, about five minutes before the interval, Lane slipped through the defence and passed to Kearns who went through for a good try. The kick failed. Half-time score : Cotton nil ; Oscott 3 points.

In the second half, play increased in tempo and swung from end to end of the field. The School forwards played particularly well and were quick to pounce upon the ball, while the backs came up rapidly for the tackle. Eventually Hartley scored a good forward's try for the School. The kick failed. Heartened by this success, the School strove hard to cross for a winning try, but the strong Oscott defence could not be penetrated.

Final score : Oscott 3 points (1 try) ; Cotton 3 points (1 try).
